Rhinoplasty - Nose Surgery
Rhinoplasty is a very delicate procedure on the nose to correct
its appearance and to improve its function of regulating the airflow.
In order to properly evaluate a nasal deformity, it is important
to analyze the nose through a systematic approach. We need to
look at the measurements of the nose's own anatomic planes and land
marks, and in terms of its relationship to the mid
face and in terms of its relationship to the whole face.
I perform a detailed analysis once the pictures are taken and this
systematic evaluation gives me the understanding needed to plan the
correction. This is then presented to the patient during a second
visit.
The surgery is done under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation
as an outpatient procedure. In order to properly carry out a detailed
plan, visualization of the anatomic structures is done through a
small columellar incision, allowing accurate sculpting of the framework
and re-establishing precisely the proper anatomic relationships. Any
septal deviation or obstruction is corrected at the same time. Twenty-four
hours after the surgery the nasal packs are removed. The sutures
are removed at five to seven days. A splint is worn for one week,
and then for one month at night.
There is initial improvement that is noted at the time of suture
removal, but more subtle enhancements continue to occur over a year's
time. |
